Properties

• Appearance: Usually a uniform brown powder. When dissolved in water, it presents a reddish-yellow to reddish-brown color; slightly soluble in fibrin, and insoluble in other organic solvents.

Chemical Properties

• It has a certain resistance to acids and alkalis. In aqueous solution:
  • Turns olive-yellow when in contact with concentrated hydrochloric acid;
  • Forms a golden-orange precipitate when reacting with concentrated sodium hydroxide;
  • Shows a green color in the presence of copper ions;
  • Turns slightly dark yellow when exposed to iron ions;
  • Exhibits a pale yellow color when in contact with zinc ions and ammonium ions.

Uses

• Mainly used for dyeing fibers such as cotton, linen, viscose rayon, acetate fiber and jute. It is also applicable for coloring inks, leather and paper.
