Physicochemical Properties

 

• Appearance: Purplish-red powder.
• Solubility: Soluble in water to form a bright red color, with a solubility of 30g/L (at 80ºC); slightly soluble in ethanol to present an orange color; insoluble in acetone.
• Chemical Characteristics: It appears bright red to magenta in concentrated sulfuric acid, and turns to brownish-orange after dilution; it forms an orange-yellow precipitate in concentrated nitric acid; it is insoluble in concentrated caustic soda solution; it shows bright red in concentrated ammonia water. When concentrated hydrochloric acid is added to its aqueous solution, a wine-red precipitate is formed; adding 10% sulfuric acid makes it slightly turn blue; adding concentrated sodium hydroxide solution makes it appear reddish-orange-brown; adding 10% sodium carbonate solution causes no change.

 

Application Properties

 

• Dyeing Performance: When dyeing cellulose fibers, the dye has excellent exhaustion property, with the maximum affinity at 80-100ºC, and good acid resistance. The color shade darkens when in contact with copper, while it remains almost unchanged when in contact with iron.
• Application Fields: Mainly used for dyeing and printing of cellulosic fabrics such as cotton, viscose, and hemp; also applicable for dyeing silk and wool, as well as paper and leather; and used in the manufacture of lake pigments. In addition to being used alone to dye colors like bright red and alizarin red (yellowish light red), it can also be used for color matching with yellow, orange, red, brown and other dyes.

• Color Shade: At standard depth, the color shade is bluish red.
• Fastness Properties: According to relevant standards, it has good acid and alkali resistance. The light fastness is grade 2-3; the soap washing fastness (fading, staining) is grade 2 and 2 respectively (ISO standard); the soap washing fastness (fading, staining) is grade 2-3 and 4 respectively (AATCC standard).
