Color and Fluorescent Effect:
The color is bright and vivid. It exhibits brilliant hues under natural light, such as lemon yellow, pink, rose red, etc. When excited by specific light sources like ultraviolet (UV) light, it emits intense fluorescence, making the color even more striking and eye-catching, thus delivering excellent visual effects.
Particle Size:
The particles are generally fine and uniform, with particle sizes varying among different product series. For example, the average particle size of the HX series from Huangshan Jiajia Fluorescent Materials Co., Ltd. is ≤15µm, that of the HP series is ≤5µm, and the particle size of the LWF series is ≤0.5µm.
Dispersibility:
Owing to their fine particle size, these pigments possess good dispersibility. They can be easily dispersed in various substrates such as plastics, inks, and coatings. This prevents the occurrence of color spots or sedimentation during the processing, ensuring consistent color of the final products.
Heat Resistance:
Different types of fluorescent pigments differ in heat resistance. Generally, they can be used stably within a certain temperature range. For instance, the HB series from Yumingjie can withstand temperatures up to 240ºC, the LQ series from Huangshan Jiajia has heat resistance up to 280ºC, while organic fluorescent pigments have relatively poor heat resistance, with a maximum withstand temperature of 200ºC.
Oil Absorption:
The oil absorption is generally relatively stable. For example, the oil absorption of most fluorescent pigment series from Huangshan Jiajia is ≤65g oil/100g pigment. This property affects the dosage of the pigment in fields like coatings and inks, as well as the formulation adjustment.
Chemical Properties
Composition:
Inorganic fluorescent powders are usually made by calcining metal sulfides (e.g., zinc sulfide, cadmium sulfide) or rare earth oxides mixed with trace activators. Organic fluorescent powders belong to the dye series, with good solubility but potential color migration issues.
Stability:
Inorganic fluorescent powders have excellent solvent resistance, acid resistance, and alkali resistance. They feature stable chemical properties and a long service life. In contrast, organic fluorescent powders have poor weather resistance and require the addition of other stabilizers during use.
Environmental Friendliness:
Most fluorescent pigments meet environmental standards, containing no heavy metals and having low or no formaldehyde content. For example, the LWF series from Huangshan Jiajia is free of formaldehyde, APEO (Alkylphenol Ethoxylates), heavy metals, and restricted aromatic amines. It is suitable for fields with high safety requirements such as toys and daily necessities.
